Venezuelan bassist Héctor Rivas, member of the progressive metal band Across Polaris, has taken things to the next level with the release of a powerful new video performance of “Introspection”, one of the band’s most technically demanding and complex tracks.
What makes this release truly special is not just the musical intricacy of the piece, but everything behind the scenes. The video was entirely recorded at his personal studio in Hangzhou, China, and stands as a true independent production feat. From the planning of the shots to the final 4K post-production, every detail was carefully crafted to deliver a high-end visual and sonic experience.
Héctor performed using a bass provided by the renowned Japanese brand Ibanez, a key collaborator in this project, helping highlight the power and versatility of his sound. He also faithfully replicated the exact effects chain used in the original studio recording of the single—featuring Darkglass Electronics, the iconic Empirical Labs Distressor compressor, and a classic SSL EQ section, achieving a tone that retains all the aggression and clarity of the original track.
The video is now available on YouTube, filmed from multiple angles to capture every nuance of his technique. It’s a true gem for bass players, gear enthusiasts, and progressive metal fans who appreciate the dedication behind every note.
